February 5th, 2003

After laboring for literally "days", in and out of the tub, bed, walking, and bathroom. Finally at 5:42 am Abigail Nadene was born. It took her what seemed like forever to breathe and cry. I remember my midwife telling Joe to talk to her as we were rubbing her all over to get her to take her first breath. Then finally she did as she lay on my chest. I was so tired I hardly heard or cared if she was a boy or girl, I still can feel that relief that she was out and my body wasn't screaming for relief. I looked down at her and her eyes were as open and intense looking at Joe and I peacefully, like she was saying- "Hey, its you, nice to see you."
5 years later she is her own beautiful girl, with her own will and determination. She knows what she knows and sometimes I am amazed that she is only 5. She is strong and a snuggler at the same time. Right now she sleeps in her bed looking so big, it is just so hard to believe it has only been 5 years. I feel like she has been with us forever...... Happy Birthday my girl.

Happy Birthday Abby!!! I can't believe you are 5, it seems like just yesterday I was calliing your Mom every couple hours to find out if you had come into the world yet. I remember wishing I could breathe for your Mom - as I know she needed a rest but she pushed thru days of labor - a feat that only she and you could endure! You both are such special ladies!
Your gift has been ordered and should be there next week!!
Wen, your posting made me tear up!
Lots of love and birthday wishes!
Jess
