The Knitting Circle

I just finished reading this book that caught my eye at the library in the New Books section. It is called the Knitting Circle by Ann Hood. It is a gut wrenching but lovely book about life, grief, and moving past it. The one thing that really hit me in this book is how women need each other. We can have supportive partners, families and kids but we NEED other women period. What would the world be like if every woman had a place to go to be themselves, be creative, at the same time feel supported no matter what was going on in their lives. It used to be women got together to quilt, what do we all do now? I guess we have coffee. :) I've said this before but we are too isolated in this society, we're all afraid to depend on each other. This life is as beautiful as it is horrifying, anyone out there up for a knitting circle?

I am always up to be in your knitting circle. Just have to knit from afar! Maybe with webcams...? Love you!

I've realized since having Lanie and Jack that I cannot afford to let go of my friendships for the sake of my kids, even though that is the natural tendency...I try to go to yoga or my mother-in-law's quilting class every week, but even that didn't happen over break. I will add the book you mentioned to my reading list, but unfortunately I can't remember the last time I had time to read something that wasn't for school!

I know what you mean Sara. Luckily I don't have to read for my work so get to have some free reading time, plus I only have one kid! I think we just all do the best we can. :) Hope you had good time off. Hannah said to say hi, she was here this last weekend.
